Customer Sketch Process

baseball-sketch006-3.jpg baseball-edited-color.jpg My studio has lots of framed samples on the walls. Hopefully this will put a customer at ease and they feel I’m competent enough to finish their art. When I sit down with them to organize their order, I usually take lots of notes and do a quick sketch. Truthfully, my notes look a lot like chicken scratches because I’m trying to keep up with their thought process. I sometimes worry this process freaks people out as I hardly put ANY detail into the image at this point. Here’s a sample of a sketch and then subsequent final art I did for a customer. He’ll be giving prints of this drawing to his groomsmen as a thank you gift for helping with his wedding. Hopefully if I freaked him out with my sketch… the final art didn’t!!
