Comfort Art

1st-card008-3.jpg My VERY FIRST professional greeting card assignment in 1992 did not start out all that well for me. After painting the final art on thick illustration board and then hand lettering the words right on the art itself, (a big no-no)  I was informed by the publisher at about 4:59pm that I had done the entire thing COMPLETELY wrong. With an extremely short deadline (8:00am the next day) and no real clue on how to fix it, I did some research and reworked the art over night. I then drove from MA to RI  first thing  the next morning hoping that the new art could be used. I was told that I had made the deadline with only moments to spare. I’ve since hung that original “wrong” art next to my main drawing board and take COMFORT in the fact that hard work and perseverance paid off.  Even today, just looking at it helps me get through the sometimes difficult roller coaster ride of being a freelance artist.  I’ve since done hundreds of cards . “Hopefully”,  the rest of them the right way.
