Bat Man Joker

Filed under: Uncategorized — scottnelson @ 6:55 pm

I teach at an Art Museum and I’m always trying to think of new ways to inspire the student’s cartooning and painting skills. I hate teaching the same thing over and over so when I saw the quality performance of Heath Ledger in the new Bat Man movie, it hit me. Knowing I was going to instruct 11 to 13 years old on portraits the next week, I tried to make things easier and show them how to capture a likeness with a humanistic “character” instead of drawing real portraits of themselves. (A daunting experience.) The end results were mixed but the students seemed to like the assignment and I enjoyed trying it myself. This is my class room example. 18 x 22 done in Tempera Paints. Took about 1 and 1/2 hours.
